L4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship for the Public Sector

Overview

ACCA has developed a unique offer for finance professionals working across the public sector, by adding on our Certificate in Public Financial Management into the L4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship.    

The programme consists of: 

Students will complete the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business by studying three key areas:

  • Business and Technology
  • Financial Accounting
  • Management Accounting

Students will then complete the Foundations in Professionalism (FiP) online module. This module helps develop a student’s understanding of what it means to act professionally and ethically as a finance professional. It includes quizzes and activities, and an end of module assessment.

Students will have the opportunity to develop specific skills and behaviours in a workplace setting delivered by their training provider. 

As part of the study programme, students will also complete ACCA’s Certificate in Public Financial Management.

By completing this certificate, students will be able to:

  • Define public money
  • Understand the objectives of public financial management
  • Know what the public financial management cycle is

This certificate will transform the finance capabilities of students within your organisation. It delivers the public finance knowledge, skills and ethical values needed by organisations within the public sector.

It introduces the essentials of public financial management; providing a practical and broad-based knowledge of public financial management, teaching the foundations of public sector finance and ensuring finance professionals in the public sector have a core understanding of what is involved.

The certificate is made up of: 

  • 22 modules
  • one-hour online exam made up of 25 multiple choice questions
  • complete course and assessment to gain your certificate and digital badge

To complete the apprenticeship, students will then take two further assessments:

  • Role Scenario Assessment

This is a 150 minute case study exam which integrates the knowledge acquired during the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business and FiP.

  • Professional Discussion 

This is a formal, 60-minute, one-to-one, online discussion in which students are asked ten questions related to their work experience to evidence achievement of apprenticeship knowledge and skills.

These assessments are taken when the student, learning provider and employer are in agreement the student has the required apprenticeship knowledge and skills and they are ready to be assessed.
